Writing Update For my Novel

So, Where are we at with the novel?

As of 8-21-25 I have completed my second draft. Now what?

Now comes the revision process. What does revision look like in my process?

First, I begin with reading through the entire draft. I'm looking for major full-length story issues. I plan on completing the full read-through within a week with detailed notes on any structural issues with the novel. This entails plot, character arcs, pacing, etc...

I am not yet focused on internal editing of grammar, etc... although, I don't tend to have many issues with grammar and spelling on the drafts I finish.

I plan on completing my developmental edits and getting my drafts out to all my beta readers by mid-September of this year (2025.) From there, I will incorporate any necessary changes due to feedback that I deem necessary. For all my beta readers, I am eternally grateful - insert little green aliens from Toy Story - for your feedback and revision suggestions. Sometimes, more often than not, I am unable to see the things that YOU see as the reader.

Once the full story length problems have been completed, I will then take a short sweep through grammar and smaller edits in the following order:

1. Chapter by chapter

2. Paragraph by paragraph

3. Sentence by sentence

Finally, once I have a polished manuscript, I owe it to my developmental editor by mid-October. Once my editor gets their hands on it, I am hoping to hear constructive feedback; this entails both harsh and good feedback on everything ranging from grammar to promises, progress, and payoffs that live within the story.
