Where I'm at with my manuscript / When will the big edits start?

For Those Waiting:

The full read-through of my second draft has been completed. I've taken full detailed notes by chapter and have just finished compiling them into one document so that I can begin my "full-story" edit. So, what does this entail?

Well, with a chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the entire story (and by re-reading the entire thing) I can see what works, what doesn't work, flaws, character arcs, etc... But before physically editing chapter-by-chapter, I like to do a full-story edit where I look at the over arching plot line and fix any issues with THAT first. Otherwise, I'm wasting my time editing paragraphs that could - and probably will - be erased.

This next part of the editing process is going to take some time, so FOR MY BETA READERS: Mid-September is still my goal to have the polished second draft ready for you. If something changes, you will be informed.

What's Next:

Following the full-story edit, I will then proceed to go chapter-by-chapter, fixing smaller issues that revolve more around world-building mistakes, silly mistakes, making dialogue sound more natural in places, ensuring that my tone and prose remain consistent throughout, ensuring POV is consistent per chapter / character, and many other things.

Following THAT edit will be the paragraph-by-paragraph, then sentence-by-sentence editing. This will ensure things like spelling, grammer, flow, etc... are polished and consistent through it all.

Once that is completed, it will be off to my beta readers... dun dun dun!
